Formed in Málaga (Spain) at the turn of the century out of the ashes of several local bands, the quartet cut their teeth playing local shows, supporting touring bands and carving out a modest but loyal following for themselves in the underground scene. Their early work was captured on a string of self-released demos, until the band finally put out their debut album “Notes to Myself” (Noise Merchant, 2007, which saw their penchant for dreamy guitar interplay and a potent rhythm section in its purest form, melody wedded to aggression.
The band’s reputation as an intense live act continued to grow with extensive nationwide shows, culminating in a tour of the US west-coast in 2008. After that the band decided to call it quits, capping their initial run (2001-2009) with a cathartic hometown farewell show at Canelaparty 2009 and what turned out to be a posthumous sophomore album recorded between US and Spain, “Waking with the Wolves” (Astoria, 2010), which saw their grip on dynamics still very much intact but with a stronger sense of indie-rock songcraft.
With the feeling the band’s journey had been curtailed at its peak, came a decade of silence. Ten years in which the members explored other avenues and projects before suddenly reuniting for a series of live shows and 2 EP’s, “Embers” (La AgonĂa de Vivir, 2019) and “Space Cowboys” (digital only, 2020). The former showed the group easing back into their trademark sound with renewed vigor and clarity and the latter a more homespun, acoustic affair recorded remotely during the pandemic, with a stronger emphasis on vocal harmony.
Which brings us now to “Calle Agua”, a new full length album which the band considers a synthesis of their previous work, with some new kinks and possibly their definitive recorded statement to date. Composed over a year of relaxed Sunday morning sessions at a flat where two of the band were living (whose Málaga street provides the record with its title), it was recorded with close friend and producer Borja PĂ©rez, at his studio La Nave Hermosa (Toledo) over a scorching week in summer 2025. The album showcases the band’s versatility with anthemic indie rock, emo-adjacent epics, moody post-punk, shoegaze, lo-fi and synthwave, without ever losing sight of their identity, presented in a compact 38 minute package. The lyrics encompass hopes & dreams, fears, fond memories, self-destruction, middle age, the loss of loved ones and open-ended questions, and are sung both in English and Spanish. For its June 2026 release the band has teamed up with a bunch of core labels in the peninsula’s DIY punk and indie scenes, La AgonĂa de Vivir, Pifia Recs, Radix Records and Saltamarges Recs. More than a mere exercise in nostalgia, “Calle Agua” is a statement of musical growth, the rollercoaster that is life and the eternal flame of friendship. Notes to Myself sound like a band that’s arrived exactly where it wants to be.
